Alfred Saker’s Baptist mission and the founding of Victoria
The British Baptist missionary Alfred Saker founded the Bethel station in Duala country in 1845, where he undertook to translate the Bible into the Duala language. Driven out of Fernando Po by the Spanish authorities in 1858, he founded a new settlement on the coast with freed families, Victoria (now Limbe).
