Formation of the single party, the Cameroon National Union (CNU)
On 1 September 1966, the main political parties of federal Cameroon, including the Cameroon Union and the Kamerun National Democratic Party, merged at President Ahidjo's initiative to form a single party, the Cameroon National Union (CNU).
