Foumban conference and the reunification of Cameroon
Meeting at Foumban from 17 to 21 July 1961, delegates from the Republic of Cameroon and Southern Cameroons agreed on a federal constitution. On 1 October 1961, the union took effect: the Federal Republic of Cameroon came into being, uniting East Cameroon and West Cameroon under President Ahmadou Ahidjo.
