Geography

Relief and rivers

The North corresponds to the Benue basin, a plain 200 to 500 m high framed by the Alantika Mountains on the Nigerian border and the Poli massif (Hosséré Vokré, over 2,000 m). The Lagdo dam on the Benue forms the country's largest reservoir.

Climate and natural environments

The Sudanian climate alternates a marked dry season with rains from May to October. Bénoué, Faro and Bouba Ndjida national parks protect vast savannas rich in large mammals.

Borders and hazards

The region borders Nigeria and Chad. Benue floods and drought episodes are the main hazards.
