Getting the taxpayer identification number (NIU)
Tax registration is done online on the portals of the Directorate General of Taxation, one for private individuals and another for professionals and companies.

Who it concerns
Any individual or legal entity that must be identified by the tax administration: employees and private individuals (for example for a bank formality, a lease or a vehicle registration), traders, self-employed professionals, companies and associations.
Steps
- Private individuals: go to the registration portal for non-professional taxpayers (immatriculation.dgi.cm), create your application and enter your identity exactly as it appears on your identity document.
- Professionals and companies: use the professional taxpayer registration service of the DGI's online filing portal (teledeclaration-dgi.cm).
- Once processed, the registration certificate bearing the NIU is delivered electronically; keep it, as the number is required for most administrative and banking formalities.
Documents to provide
The portals ask for the details of your identity document (national identity card or passport) and, for professionals, details of the activity and the business. The exact list of supporting documents is shown in the online form.
Cost and time
The DGI does not publish a fee or a processing time on its services home page; the procedure is fully online.
