1996 Constitution and decentralisation
Law No. 96/06 of 18 January 1996 thoroughly revised the 1972 Constitution. It affirmed Cameroon's character as a decentralised unitary state, provided for the ten provinces to become regions, and created a Senate alongside the National Assembly.
