International Court of Justice ruling on Bakassi

On 10 October 2002, the International Court of Justice ruled on the border dispute between Cameroon and Nigeria over the oil-rich Bakassi peninsula, which had persisted since the 1990s: it recognised Cameroon's sovereignty and ordered the withdrawal of Nigerian administration, without requiring the inhabitants to change nationality.
