Report of the joint Franco-Cameroonian historians’ commission
Formed in 2023 at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, a joint Franco-Cameroonian commission of historians delivered its report on France's role and engagement in Cameroon between 1945 and 1971, first to Emmanuel Macron on 21 January 2025, then to President Paul Biya in Yaoundé on 28 January 2025. The report concluded that a "war" had taken place, marked by multiple forms of repressive violence by the colonial authorities and, after 1960, by the French-backed Cameroonian state.
