Formation of the Bamileke chiefdoms

About a hundred Bamileke chiefdoms formed on the western plateau from the sixteenth century, following population movements that pushed groups of Tikar origin already settled in the Grassfields further south. Each chiefdom kept its own political organisation and ruler (fo), while sharing a similar cosmology and social structure.
